About the Planning Commission
The Skagit County Planning Commission was created under the authority of RCW 36.70.040 by Resolution No. 3078 on July 24, 1961, pursuant to the Planning Enabling Act, RCW 36.70. The Planning Commission "shall assist the planning department in carrying out its duties, including assistance in the preparation and execution of the comprehensive plan and recommendations to the department for the adoption of official controls and/or amendments thereto."

The Planning Commission consists of nine members appointed by the Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners and approved by a majority of the Board. SCC 14.02.080(1). Three Planning Commission members are appointed to represent each County Commissioner district to ensure countywide geographical membership among the Planning Commission.

to study and discuss the working draft of the Shoreline Master Program Update. The draft document will be available for review on the website when it is made available to the Planning Commission. A working draft of the updated SMP is due to the Washington State Department of Ecology by July 31, 2012. The formal public review, comment and local approval process is scheduled to begin in early Fall 2012. Public open houses will be held in October.

Planning Planning Commission decision on pipeline safety

 

PUBLIC HEARING ON PIPELINE SAFETY

Who: Skagit County Board of Commissioners

What: a public hearing to discuss the general concepts of pipeline safety standards

When:  6:00 p.m., September 12, 2011

Where:  Commissioners Hearing Room located at 1800 Continental Place, Mount Vernon.

Other info:  The purpose of the hearing is to receive public comment on the general concepts of pipeline safety, including, but not limited to: the use of a sensitive utility corridor overlay; public education and communication; emergency response coordination; a consultation zone; setbacks for new high-consequence land uses and essential public facilities; development mitigation; dimensional standards; and title notice.  Written comments may be submitted to the Board of County Commissioners at commissioners@co.skagit.wa.us.
